Welcome to the Original Punk Rock Heavy Metal Karaoke band’s website. We are New York City’s first and best karaoke band—accept no substitutes! We play the songs, and you sing, or scream, or howl, whatever. Our objective to give YOU, whether you’re a professional or you have never sung in front of anyone in your life, the best possible rock and roll experience. All you have to do is get up onstage and do your best, and we take care of the rest. Inspired by a Los Angeles-area band comprised of punk rock veterans, we played our first gig in April 1999 at Arlene Grocery in New York City; only about 25 punk rock songs were available at that time. While we returned to the venue throughout summer ‘99 to great acclaim, we added metal songs in November of that year, and the event was packed every Monday night from 2000 through 2004. From 2001 to 2003, we also performed nights dedicated to “Arena Rock” (Journey, Styx, Foreigner, etc). We have recently restarted this event. In 2001, a documentary film concerning the event debuted at the NYC’s Knitting Factory, and as of early 2009, the band’s story has been told in Brian Raftery’s Don’t Stop Believin’: How Karaoke Conquered The World And Changed My life. Over the course of our 10 year career, the band has been accompanied by Jimmy Fallon, Ryan Adams, Melissa auf der Maur, Britt Daniel (Spoon), Gene Ween, Peaches, Horatio Sanz, Robbie Williams, Craig Wedren (Shudder to Think), and we are told Shakira showed up at our show once. We also had the great honor of opening for Kid Rock at Irving Plaza in 2006 and Naughty by Nature in 2003. The band held another residency at New York’s Continental from 2005-2006 and are currently playing monthly at Fontana’s. We have also played at Irving Plaza, Webster Hall, Mercury Lounge, Southpaw, Santo’s Party House, Canal Room, Lit, Crash Mansion, Fat Baby, Rehab, Delancey, R&R and Luna Lounge.
